The Office of the Yukon Lobbyist Registry is committed to protecting your privacy.
The Lobbyist Registry is established under the Lobbyists Registration Act to ensure transparency of those involved in lobbying public office holders. The Office of the Yukon Lobbyist Registry is responsible for administering the Register. We collect, use and disclose personal information to establish the Register according to the requirements of the Lobbyists Registration Act.
Specifically, the Lobbyists Registration Act requires lobbyists to submit:
- a return containing names;
- organization name and address;
- contact information;
- dates of lobbying activity;
- communication techniques used by the lobbyist;
- information about grants received by the lobbyist;
- the purpose of lobbying; and
- who is being lobbied.
The personal information collected for the purposes of the Register will only be used and disclosed for the purposes of the Lobbyists Registration Act. However, we may disclose personal information if we are legally obligated to.
The Conflict of Interest Commissioner may verify the information provided in the return to ensure it is accurate.
All personal information we collect that is not published will be secured according to our information management and security policies and, or practices.
Publishing lobbying activities
The Act requires lobbyists to submit a return containing certain information, which may include personal information. Information from the return that will be published in the Register and accessible by the public includes:
- a return containing names;
- organization name and address;
- dates of lobbying activity;
- communication techniques used by the lobbyist;
- information about grants received by the lobbyist;
- the purpose of lobbying; and
- who is being lobbied.
It may take between 3 to 5 business days from the time a return is received and the information is approved and published to the Register.
If a lobbyist has any concerns about the publishing of their personal information in the Register, they should inform us when filing the return. The Office of the Lobbyist Registry has discretion about whether to disclose personal information in the Register where doing so may threaten an individual’s safety.
Communicating with our office
If you choose to send us an email, we may use any personal information provided to respond to your inquiry. Email communication is not a secure form of communication. We recommend you avoid sending any sensitive personal information to us by email.
Improving your experience on the Yukon Lobbyist Registry
We collect, analyse, measure and report on website traffic so we can understand and improve the user experience on the Register. Information we collect includes:
- originating IP address;
- date and time of visit;
- browser, browser language and device type;
- operating system used;
- screen size and resolution;
- page(s) visited;
- the URL of the page viewed before coming to the Register;
- downloaded files;
- links selected that took you to a website outside the Lobbyist Registry; and
- time it takes for the web server to generate web pages and the time it took you to download the page.
Cookies
The Register may download a cookie to your computer. A cookie is a data file the web server uses to remember visitors’ behaviours and preferences. When you return to the site, it responds to give you a more customized experience.
If you have concerns over us collecting this type of information, you can set your browser to not accept cookies or to display a warning that a cookie will be downloaded if the site is accessed. Changing these settings will not exclude you from any part of the Register.
